Broads Guardians

Supporting community projects, protecting nature,

and helping more people experience the Broads

Working together to protect the Broads

Broads Guardians is about supporting the people already doing incredible things across the Broads.

From giving children their first experience on the water, to restoring habitats, improving access, or protecting wildlife — we help bring community-led projects to life through funding and support.

Rather than leading every project ourselves, we work alongside local groups, organisations and volunteers — helping turn their ideas into meaningful action that benefits the Broads and the people who enjoy it.

What Broads Guardians Does

Supporting community projects

We provide funding and support to local groups delivering projects that care for the Broads — whether that’s conservation work, education, access improvements or community initiatives.

Protecting wildlife and landscapes

We support projects that enhance biodiversity, care for habitats and help protect the natural beauty of the Broads for the future.

Focused annual projects

Alongside supporting others, we also run a small number of our own focused projects each year, allowing us to deliver targeted impact where it’s most needed.

Helping people experience the Broads

From first-time boat trips for children to inclusive access projects, we support initiatives that help more people connect with the Broads in a meaningful way.

Working in partnership

We collaborate with charities, community groups, schools and local organisations — strengthening the impact of the work already happening across the Broads.

Small Grants for Local Projects

A key part of Broads Guardians is providing small grants to help bring community projects to life.

These grants support practical, meaningful ideas that benefit the Broads — often making the difference between a project staying an idea and becoming a reality.

  • habitat and biodiversity improvements

  • access, walking or cycling enhancements

How to apply

Our application process is simple and straightforward.

You’ll be asked to outline your project, who it benefits, why it’s needed and the costs involved.

How this work is funded

Broads Guardians is made possible through Love the Broads, our visitor giving scheme.

Through small, voluntary contributions from visitors and supporters, we’re able to fund projects that protect, enhance and open up the Broads for everyone.

It’s a simple idea — people who love the Broads helping to look after it.

Why Broads Guardians matters

The Broads is a special place — but it doesn’t look after itself.

By supporting community-led projects, we can:

  • protect wildlife and natural habitats

  • help more people experience and enjoy the Broads

  • support local communities

  • celebrate heritage and local stories

  • fund practical projects that make a real difference

Small actions, backed by the right support, create lasting impact.
