Traditional Boatbuilding: Keeping the Heritage of the Broads Alive Through Training

Meet in the car park of the Wherry Hotel, directly in front of the Broad, Wednesday 9th October 2024 2.30 p.m; to finish at 5.30 pm.

 

To be followed by an optional supper at the Wherry Hotel, Oulton Broad, 6.00-8.00 pm.

 

This exciting visit to the International Boatbuilding Training College at Oulton Broad will introduce participants to the work being done to provide the essential skills needed to support traditional boatyards and heritage buildings across the Broadland Region and beyond. You will see what plans are in place to take the College into the next 50 years of training in top-quality traditional boatbuilding and woodworking heritage skills.

 

The visit includes a presentation about the importance of heritage and artisanal craftsmanship, followed by an in-depth tour of the workshops to meet students and trainers in action and the range of traditional wooden boats being repaired and restored.

Price: £12.00 per person, £10.00 of which will go to the College’s charitable bursary fund for students.
